The final temptation (in Luke’s order) shows that faith prefers to trust God than to test God (vv. 9–12). We might say the focus is on certainty here. Can we be sure of God and His care? In particular, can Jesus be sure of God and His care, and, if so, is He ready to demonstrate that He believes it?
